Solo/Duos

Who can do them?
Everyone!!!

What is a solo?
A solo performance is an arrangement to music timed between 1.5 to 3.5 minutes (depending on age) where the performers display 50% dance and 50% physical movement (free arm). Competitors compete in their own age group in the section of Novice and Open which is dependent on state team representation, championship graceful representation, and previous success in the Novice or Open section.

What is a duo?
A duo performance is an arrangement to music timed between 1.5 to 3.5 minutes (depending on age) where the competitors display 50% dance and 50% physical movement (free arm). Competitors can partner with someone from their own age group or one year level below or above. It is highly recommended that the partners display similar qualities and have the ability to work together as a team. Duos compete in the age group of the oldest partner in the section of Novice and Open which is dependent on state team representation, championship graceful representation and previous success in the Novice or Open section.

How do I get started?
If your child is interested and you have already organised a coach then you are all set. Please do not assume that the coach you had last year is able to coach, always best to double check as some circumstances may have changed.

If you have not organised a coach, please email Hayley at headcoach@applecrosscali.com.au by Monday 8 July and she will assist you in finding a coach.

What is expected of you?
It is expected that your child sets aside time at home to practice set routines and learn choreography between lessons. It is recommended your child meets with their duo partner when possible between set training times with their coach. The preparation for this competition is limited so performers need to take on responsibility for learning their items. Videoing a training session is a great option once the routine has been finished. If you are going away on holiday during the preparation time for competitions, we ask you to consider this as it can add extra pressure on our coaches.

If you have any queries, please reach out to your child’s coach or email Hayley at headcoach@applecrosscali.com.au
